Christmas Day ‘bomber’ talking to authorities again

The man charged with attempting to blow up a commercial jet on Christmas Day who initially spoke with federal investigators before clamming up, has begun to provide authorities with more information, Fox News reported on Tuesday.

Umar Farouk Abdulmuttalab, 23, has been “cooperating” with FBI interrogators, a law enforcement official told Fox News. The information he has shared has proven to be “current, active intelligence,” according to the official.

It was not immediately clear when the Nigerian student began speaking to authorities again. The official said “He knows what he faces, particularly life imprisonment. And that’s part of the incentive to talk.”

During a Senate hearing Wednesday about Abdulmutallab, Dennis Blair, the Director of National Intelligence, said the government needs to balance the need for intelligence versus the need for prosecution, NBC News reported.

“The balance in Abdulmutallab was understandable. We got good intelligence. We’re getting more,” he said.
