Arab ‘plot’ eyed at SC Army base

Several soldiers assigned to an Arabic-translation unit at a South Carolina Army base are being investigated for plotting to poison the food supply there, it was reported last night.

The Army is taking “extremely seriously” allegations that the soldiers were planning to poison the Fort Jackson food supply, the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division spokesman, Chris Grey, told Fox News.

The investigation has been under way for the past two months, but “there is no credible information to support the allegations,” Grey said.

WLTX-TV in South Carolina reported that several soldiers were detained shortly before Christmas.

Their current status is unclear and an Army spokesman said no arrests have been made.

Citing sources, Fox said the suspects are Muslim and part of a translation program called “09 Lima,” made up of noncitizens for whom Arabic is their first language.

The investigation was launched roughly a month after deranged Army psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan gunned down 12 soldiers and one civilian at Fort Hood, Texas.
