FIRST, “The Time Trav eler’s Wife” was a hugely successful novel, and now it’s a box office hit — and ABC is betting the story’s success will translate into a TV series.
ABC and “Friends” creator Marta Kauffman are teaming up to produce a pilot, with the idea that it will eventually lead to a weekly series perhaps as early as 2010, it was reported yesterday.
In a tale that blends romance with science fiction, Audrey Niffenegger’s novel follows an artist named Clare, and her time-jumping soulmate Henry — who finds it difficult to stay in the present moment due to a genetic abnormality.
Kauffman, who has been in talks with ABC “for years” about bringing “The Time Traveler’s Wife” to television, will be an executive producer and writer on the show, according to the trade Web site The Wrap, which broke the news yesterday.
