‘Ugly Betty’ star returns to TV as crusading nun

America Ferrera, the Emmy-winning star of the ABC sitcom “Ugly Betty,” will very likely return to CBS next season — this time starring as a nun who’s also a lawyer in a show called “Damascus.”

The series, a drama this time, sounds very different from CBS’ other legal drama, the fading “The Good Wife” (which stars Julianna Margulies).

Ferrera, who’s played the recurring role of Natalie Flores on “The Good Wife,” will star in “Damascus” as a “crusading nun” who also fights for the underprivileged, according to deadline.com.

When she comes to work alongside an unbearably elitist corporate lawyer, they discover that they’re both targets of a dangerously powerful organization.

The other lead in the series has not been cast, but the pilot was so hot it generated a bidding war eventually won by CBS.

Ferrera has been laying low since “Betty” wrapped three years ago, finishing her studies at the University of Southern California.

She will also serve as the executive producer on “Damascus,” along with her “Betty” executive producer Teri Weinberg.
