Jack and jilted after ‘Life’ wedding

SAME-sex weddings on soap operas are no big deal any more — but when did you ever hear of a gay wedding where the groom leaves his partner at the altar?

On ABC’s daytime soap “One Life to Live,” a gay character this week dumped his fiancé for another man mid-ceremony — a move that was at one time unthinkable for TV.

Jilted brides and grooms are standard stuff for soap operas, but fans were buzzing yesterday with the surprise plot twist that involved a gay wedding triangle for the first time anyone could remember.

It happened on Monday’s show, during an outdoor wedding for same-sex couples.

As Kyle is standing at the altar ready to recite his vows with husband-to-be Nick, he undergoes a dramatic change of heart and announces to the guests he just can’t go through it.

“I want to someday marry the man I love. I just hope I get that chance,” Kyle tells Nick.

He then turns and asks his ex — a cop who is coincidetnally handling security at the wedding — if they can give their relationship one more shot.

ABC was the first network to feature a same-sex wedding between major, on-going characters — on “Brothers & Sisters” in 2008.

While same-sex relationships are more frequently portrayed in primetime now, the wedding scene was an unusual event on daytime TV.

One other bit of fiction: “One Life” takes place in Pennsylvania where gay marriage is currently banned.
