Yanks Series: Best since ‘04

Game Six of the World Series — when the Yankees won their 27th world championship — was seen by an estimated 22.3 million viewers, capping the best ratings for a Series since the Boston Red Sox won it in 2004 after an 86-year drought.

The final night audience matches last Sunday night’s game as the most-watched game of this series.

Because the World Series did not go seven games, the average audience size for the series as a whole likely won’t break 20 million, but it should get very close.

No matter, it is way more than last year’s record-low ratings. Estimates are that the final ratings, due out shortly, will be at least 40 percent higher than the 2008 Phils-Devil Rays series.
