‘Chimp maul’ gal on Oprah, may be discharged soon

The woman horrifically mauled by a chimp in February may be released from the hospital soon.

Charla Nash suffered unimaginable injuries to her face when she was attacked by the animal, owned by her friend in Stamford, Conn.

Family attorney William Monaco says Nash may be discharged soon from the Cleveland Clinic, 1010 Wins reported. She is expected to go to a rehabilitation center after she leaves the hospital.

Talk-show host Oprah Winfrey interviewed her in her room at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio yesterday for a show airing at 4 p.m. today on WABC/Channel 7.

Charla Nash had believed until only a few weeks ago that she’d be able to see again — only to learn the devastating truth that her eyes had been surgically removed.

Nash lost her nose, hands, an eyelid and lips. Surgeons removed her eyes due to an infection.

“Only . . . in the past couple of weeks did she realize that she no longer had eyes, because she had been saying that she was hoping to be able to see at some point,” Winfrey said.

Oprah’s producers spent Friday at the clinic — which last year performed the nation’s first successful face transplant — filming Nash in a typical day. She wears a veil throughout her TV appearance.

Winfrey said Nash — who turned 56 yesterday — will consider a face transplant.

But for now, “She’s worried about whether her daughter is going to choose the appropriate prom dress and worried she won’t be there for that,” Winfrey said.
