Uncertainty

Excellent New York City location shooting and the ever-reliable Joseph Gordon-Levitt can’t salvage this gimmicky, overlong thriller from Scott McGehee and David Siegel, who directed the far more compelling “The Deep End.”

Gordon-Levitt and pregnant girlfriend Lynn Collins toss a coin on the Brooklyn Bridge to decide what to do next, and we see their day play out in two widely varying versions, a la “Sliding Doors.”

A murder and a prolonged chase triggered by the discovery of a cellphone belonging to a gangster ultimately turn out to be not that much more gripping than a cookout with the woman’s family in Brooklyn.

“Uncertainty” is dicey entertainment, indeed.

Running time: 105 minutes. Not rated (violence, profanity, sexuality). At the IFC Center, Sixth Avenue and Third Street.
