Horse rescued after jumping into pool

Hay, horse — it’s a pool not a pasture!

Cops and animal control workers rescued a horse who accidentally jumped into a covered pool, thinking it was solid ground in Long Island on Wednesday, a police source said.

The confused creature plunged into the icy waters of the in-ground home pool in Bohemia then became stranded at around 8:30 a.m., the source said.

Quick-thinking cops then set up six makeshift stairs out of hay bails under the water and guided the shivering horse out using a body strap, the source said.

“It’s a strong pool cover but it must have been a strong horse,” a Suffolk County Police spokeswoman said.

She added, “The horse was fine.”

The horse, who belongs to the owner of the home, may have been spooked by a deer or another animal.
The owner of the home on Oakdale-Bohemia Road did not immediately return calls.

The town of Islip’s animal control officers also assisted in saving the house, which took about 45 minutes.
