Good Samaritans get in over heads saving person from icy East River: Cops, firefighters then rescue all three

Cops and firefighters plucked three people from the icy waters of the East River at 10th Street around 3: 30 this afternoon, and at least one victim was in critical condition after going into cardiac arrest. That person was taken to Beth Israel Hospital.

The FDNY said two good Samaritans spotted a person bobbing in the water and jumped in to help, but they succumbed to the freezing temperatures and strong currents and needed to be rescued as well.

They were being treated for hypothermia at the scene.
