Bicyclist struck, killed near Aqueduct Racetrack

A man was killed yesterday night while riding a bicycle near the Aqueduct Racetrack, police said.

Ramon Russel, 37, was struck in the head by a tractor trailer in the parking lot of the racetrack on 114th Street and 150th Avenue about 5:20 p.m., cops said. A police source said he died immediately.

The 53-year-old driver was making a wide turn in the parking lot and didn’t initially realize he had hit Russel, police sources said. He was at the racetrack to pick up horses and bring them to Belmont Park.

The cyclist lived in a dormitory nearby at the racetrack and worked assisting a horse trainer.

No criminality is suspected, and the driver had a valid license, authorities said. He passed a breathalyzer after the accident, and inspectors did not find any violations on his truck.
