Idle workers hit up online dating during shutdown

When the federal government shut down, furloughed workers went looking for love.

Internet dating sites saw a spike in activity during October’s federal government shutdown, according to the online dating app Zoosk.

There was a 92 percent and 110 percent surge in action on Zoosk’s “Carousel” game — where singles get random looks at profiles of potential dates — during the first and second weeks of the shutdown.

During the second week of the shutdown, the number of profiles viewed by Zoosk members in the Washington, DC area jumped by 46 percent, according to data reported Monday by MarketWatch.
