Cano, Wright, Young Jr. picked as Gold Glove finalists

Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, Mets third baseman David Wright and Mets left fielder Eric Young Jr. were named as finalists for the Gold Glove Award.

Cano has won a Gold Glove the last three years. The Red Sox’s Dustin Pedroia and the Rays’ Ben Zobrist, also of the AL East, are the other finalists.

Wright has won two Gold Gloves, but none since taking home back-to-back awards in 2007-08. He is competing at third base with the Rockies’ Nolan Arenado and the Dodgers’ Juan Uribe.

Young Jr. — acquired midseason in a trade with the Rockies — is vying with the Rockies’ Carlos Gonzalez and the Pirates’ Starling Marte in left field.

Rawlings, which oversees the Gold Glove hardware, has named three finalists at each position since 2011. The Orioles led all teams with six finalists, and the Rays’ entire infield (James Loney, Zobrist, Yunel Escobar, Evan Longoria) was nominated.

The award is determined by managers’ and coaches’ votes (approximately 75 percent of the formula) and — for the first time — defensive sabermetrics (25 percent). The winners will be announced on Tuesday at 8 p.m. on ESPN2.
