Stocks surge

US stocks soared yesterday, sending the Dow Jones to the highest level in five years, adding 175.24, to reach 14,075.37. The S&P 500 rose 1.3 percent, to 1,515.99.

Clearwire, the object of a takeover contest, has decided to accept at least $80 million in financing from Sprint Nextel next month, a decision that may hinder a rival bid from Dish Network.

LinkedIn up

LinkedIn surged to a record high after analysts released bullish reports on its growth prospects. Shares rose to $169.44 at one point yesterday, closing at 168.55, up 6.8 percent.
