Scalpers busted peddling ‘phony’ Giants tickets

These scalpers got sacked.

Three scammers looking to cash in on the Giants’ winning streak were busted for peddling phony tickets in Midtown following a wild chase that included an NYPD sergeant getting hit by a van.

The trouble began Sunday when a Big Blue fan saw tickets to Sunday’s Dallas Cowboys game advertised online and arranged to meet the seller.

The buyer immediately questioned their validity but went ahead with the purchase — four tickets for $600 — because the seller let him snap his photo, police said.

Still suspicious, he later called the MetLife Stadium ticket office, and they told him he had fakes because they all have the same bar code and an inaccurate face value of $185.

The buyer called cops, and plainclothes officers from the 17th Precinct set up a sting in the lobby of a building on Third Avenue, near East 42nd Street, around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday.

“[The cops] make a purchase,” Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Wednesday. “The tickets were bogus. They arrest this individual.

“They see a car that they think is associated with the individual who they just arrested. Inside, they can see a pile of the Giants tickets. The car takes off.”

A 48-year-old sergeant with 26 years on the job gave chase. He caught up to the driver at a red light, identified himself and took the keys. Passenger Shawndale Lewis, 27, who had a stack of tickets in his hand, ran away, police said.

“The sergeant is in very good shape and is gaining on him,” a police source said. “The suspect darts between two parked vehicles and runs into traffic on 42nd Street and the sergeant is clipped by a van. The sergeant is sprawled out. His radio went flying.”

Bystanders crowded around the injured cop.

“Someone hands him his radio,” the source said. “He’s lying on the ground, not sure how badly he’s injured, then puts over the radio the direction of flight of the guy he was chasing and requests an ambulance for himself.”

Responding officers nabbed Lewis, driver Sergio Mercado, 23, and Noel Cleaver, 25, police said.

The scalpers, all from The Bronx, were charged with possession of forged instruments and petit larceny. Lewis also faces resisting arrest and felony assault on a police officer for initiating the chase that led to the cop’s injuries.

The cop was taken to Bellevue Hospital for bumps, bruises and cuts.
