Huskies hang on vs. ’Cuse

When Connecticut beat No. 6 Syracuse 66-58 in Hartford last night, it meant that there are no more scheduled games between the national powers.

Syracuse will play next season in the Atlantic Coast Conference while Connecticut will stay in the realigned Big East although the Huskies could be enticed to head to another conference if asked.

Freshman Omar Calhoun scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead Connecticut (17-6, 7-4 Big East) in the rivalry’s finale, for now.

There is no chance they would meet again this postseason as Connecticut has been banned from the Big East and NCAA tournaments as part of a punishment for failing to post a passable APR score.

The Orange (20-4, 8-3), who dropped into a three-way tie for first place in the conference were led by Michael Carter-Williams with 15 points.

Duke 73, North Carolina 68

In Durham, N.C., Mason Plumlee had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 2 Duke (22-2, 9-2 ACC) over North Carolina. P.J. Hairston scored 20 points and Reggie Bullock had 15 for the Tar Heels (16-8, 6-5), who lost their second straight.

Xavier 79, Fordham 66

In Cincinnati, Mandell Thomas scored 23 points for Fordham (6-19, 2-8, A-10), but it wasn’t enough as Justin Martin scored 16 points for Xavier (14-9, 7-3) and kept the Musketeers unbeaten at home in Atlantic 10 play.

Miami 74, Florida State 68

In Tallahassee, Shane Larkin scored 13 of his 22 points in the final 7 1/2 minutes to help No. 3 Miami (20-3, 11-0 ACC) stave off Florida State (13-11, 5-6) for its 12th straight victory.

Charlotte 71, Butler 67

In Indianapolis, Pierria Henry scored 17 points to lead Charlotte (18-6, 6-4 A-10) over No. 11 Butler (20-5, 7-3).

Notre Dame 82, DePaul 78, OT
