Brooklyn scores the VMAs

The Moonman has landed in Brooklyn.

MTV’s Video Music Awards show — featuring its “Moonman” statues — will be held at the Barclays Center this year, the network announced yesterday.

“Brooklyn is home to icons like the Cyclone in Coney Island and the Brooklyn Bridge,” said a beaming Mayor Bloomberg. “And now it can lay claim to the MTV Video Music Awards.”

The live event, set for Aug. 25, will mark the show’s 30th anniversary — and is a major coup for the fledgling arena, which opened last year as home to the Brooklyn Nets basketball team.

MTV President Stephen Friedman told The Post that singer Beyoncé and her husband, Jay-Z, a Brooklyn native who owns a small interest in the arena, are at the top of his invitation list.

“We would love to have them there,” Friedman said.
