Florida Gulf Coast’s Enfield to USC

Florida Gulf Coast’s Cinderella run in the NCAA Tournament lacked a Hollywood ending, but its coach is headed to La La Land anyway with his super-model wife.

Andy Enfield agreed to terms to take over the Southern California men’s basketball program last night, the school announced, just three days after the 15th-seeded Eagles were eliminated in the Sweet 16 by No. 3 Florida. Previously an assistant coach in the NBA and at Florida State, Enfield reportedly agreed to a six-year deal worth $1.5 million a year.

In two years at FGCU, Enfield compiled a 42-28 record and won the 2013 Atlantic Sun Tournament crown.

Florida Gulf Coast, in just its second year of competing at the Division I level and nicknamed “Dunk City” because of its frequent alley-oop slams, caught the nation’s attention after upsets of No. 2 Georgetown and No. 6 San Diego State. Enfield’s club led Florida by double digits last Friday before the dream came crashing down.

It’s just beginning for Enfield, who parlayed a few big wins into a big job.
