Stone Temple Pilot frontman Scott Weiland avoided jail yesterday, as he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor drug possession and agreed to stay in rehab.
The L.A. rocker, sporting a red-tinged Mohawk hairdo, appeared in a crowded Manhattan courtroom to face charges that could have cost him up to a year in the clink.
He was caught copping $100 worth of heroin at a Lower East Side housing project in June.
Cops stopped Weiland, 32, as he stood near a “No Trespassing” sign at an Avenue D housing project, and were dumbfounded when he explained: “No, I’m not visiting anyone. I just bought drugs.”
Weiland, recently reunited with the popular Stone Temple Pilots to prepare for a summer tour, faces a month in jail if he doesn’t keep up his four-times-a-week outpatient treatments and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
He’s currently on probation in California for similar drug-possession charges.
