Robber’s getaway was ‘lame’

Police are on the lookout for a bum-foot bandit.

A burglar broke into a Fort Greene apartment, but was caught making a slow-motion getaway with his cane, authorities said.

The thief, who was wearing a cast, was captured on surveillance video just before he hobbled through an open window of the apartment on St. James Place at around 10 a.m. May 24, cops said.

Resident Emma Carhart, 24, came home to find the crook sitting on her windowsill and hiding behind a curtain.

“I freaked out and ran away upstairs,” she said. “He ran out the window and up the stairs.”

The startled man limped away, leaving his cane behind. Carhart said she didn’t call the police because the man didn’t steal anything, but later alerted cops after a neighbor’s home was burglarized.

“I felt bad,” Carhart said. “I thought he was an old homeless man who wanted to get out of the rain.”

Cops said they plan to test the cane for fingerprints and DNA.
