Another serial killer

Can’t have enough serial killers on TV this year. In addition to Norman Bates and the guy on “The Following” and Hannibal Lecter, we now have “Crossing Lines,” a 10-episode series about a disabled former NYPD detective, Carl Hickman (William Fichtner) who receives a unique offer from his friend, Det. Maj. Louis Daniel (Marc Lavoine). The Major has a tough case searching for an international serial killer who crosses borders undetected leaving a trail of victims in his path. Carl joins a team of unique specialists working for the International Criminal Court; while trying to juggle his own personal demons and trying to corner the killer before time runs out. When a member of the ICC team goes missing, it is presumed to be at the hands of the psychotic serial killer. Meanwhile, Tommy (Richard Flood) follows the trail of the serial killer’s earlier victims, and Hickman must face his demons and find the missing team member. Elsewhere, when Sebastian (Tom Wlaschiha) tracks down the killer the team must race to apprehend him — but a sudden tragedy changes the teams’ lives forever.

Desperate ‘Maids’

Marc Cherry struck gold with “Desperate Housewives.” Hungry for another hit, he offers “Devious Maids.” Here they are (from left): Aspiring singer Carmen (Roselyn Sanchez, far left) hopes that her pop-star employer, Alejandro, can help her career; Valentina (Edy Ganem) who has a crush on her employer’s son; Marisol (Ana Ortiz,) who cleans the home of the obnoxious Taylor while investigating the murder of her former maid; Rosie (Dania Ramirez, second from right), a single mother who left her son behind in Mexico and Zoila (Judy Reyes), the senior maid for Genevieve (Susan Lucci), an unstable wealthy woman. Not to be redundant.

Don’t shoot on my parade

After a state senator is assassinated at a St. Patrick’s Day parade, Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon, right) and Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander, left) have their work cut out for them. Maura is a little out of sorts these days, after anonymously donating a kidney to a half-sister she didn’t know she had. The suspects include a Web site manager who was harassing the dead senator over the Internet. During the manhunt, Jane runs into a hot soldier, Casey (Chris Vance), whose voice is actually deeper than hers. David Selby (“Falcon Crest”) is a guest star, and Lorraine Bracco looks like she wishes “The Sopranos” was still on.

Down these mean streets

The year is 1865, the place New York City. On the eve of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, it’s business as usual in the Five Points neighborhood. Then, backed by Tammany Hall’s Boss Tweed, Gen. Brendan Donovan (Donal Logue, right) returns from the Civil War to restore order in the Sixth Ward. This season, “Copper” will explore illegal army recruiting, the 13th Amendment to the Constitution and public health hazards. The show’s main character, Det. Kevin Corcoran (Tom Weston-Jones), tries to do his job while still coping with the betrayal of his best friend and his wife. Donovan will enlist Corcoran’s aid to clean up the precinct’s image and teach him that exhibiting power and respect is the only way to shake off the scrutiny of the elite.

The service entrance

Don Draper (Jon Hamm) became a back-door man this year on “Mad Men.” He was in and out of the service entrance to the apartment of Dr. Arnold (Brian Markinson) and Mrs. Sylvia Rosen (Linda Cardellini) more times than decency permits us to mention — until his daughter Sally (Kiernan Shipka) walked in on him “comforting” Sylvia with his boxers down around his ankles. He was so careless, he also left the back door to his apartment open, and a thief robbed him blind while Sally and her brother Bobby were there. Don also had a one-night stand with ex-wife Betty (January Jones) when they took Bobby to camp. At the agency, Don was frequently upstaged by a younger rival (Kevin Rahm). Pete (Vincent Kartheiser) became increasingly pathetic after his wife left him. Peggy (Elisabeth Moss) lost her boyfriend when she stabbed him with a spear (he survived). Roger (John Slattery) was about the same.
