Mark Feuerstein: My Hamptons

ON the hit show “Royal Pains,” now in its fifth season and airing Wednesday nights on USA, Mark

Feuerstein stars as Hank Lawson, a “doctor for hire” in the Hamptons. In real life, Feuerstein calls LA home — but he grew up in New York and frequently stays at his parents’ place in Bridgehampton. “My parents are only too happy to hear about the day’s events when I crawl next door for a salad with my mother at about 11:30 at night,” laughs Feuerstein, 42. This is his Hamptons.

1. “The Cut,” at W. Scott Cameron Beach, 425 Dune Road, Bridgehampton

“There are a bunch of families who are going to be upset with me, because I’m revealing their secret spot. It’s where the bay meets the ocean. It’s the perfect spot to bring your kids, because if you’re worried about them getting pulled by the undertow, they can play in the very shallow water of the bay. And then you can take a walk with your kids right to the ocean and put your feet in the surf. You can [also] watch the old men crabbing with their drumsticks tied by a piece of rope to a nail in the sand.”

2. Cyril’s Fish House, 2167 Montauk Highway, Montauk

“They serve drinks that are basically like piña coladas on crack. They have probably twice as much rum as you might get when you go to one of those places like the resort that everyone from Long Island, New Jersey and Murray Hill goes to. It’s called the BBC [Bailey’s Banana Colada], and you can get an extra shot of rum on top. On any Friday night, you will see hundreds of single people.”

3. Wölffer Estate Vineyard, 139 Sagg Road, Sagaponack

“If you used to go to Cyril’s, and now you have children, the place to be on a Friday night is Wölffer. Every Friday they have a musical guest playing, whether it’s a ska band or a Mexican flute band or just a cover band that plays everything from Jimmy Buffett to the Dead. Your children can run free on the grass of the vineyard while the parents sit on blankets and eat their picnics and bake in the last light of the sun and listen to great music. Traders will either celebrate a good week on the market or commiserate a horrible week, and people like me will sing hi-diddle-dee, because they haven’t been stressing out about the market.”

4. Candy Kitchen, 2391 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton

“It has the feeling nothing has changed since the 1950s, when ‘Mr. Sandman’ and ‘Lollipop’ were playing on the radio, and the Hamptons were unaffected by all the “citiots,” as our show would call them. But the Candy Kitchen is just the perfect spot to sit on a hot day and either have a tuna-fish sandwich on toasted rye bread or to taste any of their fresh-made ice creams.”

5. Scoop NYC, 51 Newtown Lane, East Hampton

“Next to Scoop du Jour [is the perfect place] if you want to spend an extra 25 to 50 percent markup on a belt, a pair of flip-flops or the perfect pair of jeans. When I’m not shopping for a new jacket by Greg Lauren at Barneys in the city, I find the best menswear at Scoop.”

6. Scoop du Jour, 35 Newtown Lane, East Hampton

“There is something about the creaminess combined with the Oreo in their particular version of cookies and cream — or it’s the fact that you’ve just had a hot, humid day on Long Island, and the perfect antidote is sitting on the benches of Main Street. [They also have] Dreesen’s doughnuts, which I used to have with my father on a Sunday morning, while he had a cup of coffee and I had a hot chocolate.”

7. Super Saturday, held July 27 at Nova’s Ark Project, 30 Millstone Road, Water Mill

“The great event of the summer is Super Saturday, where we all collect — everyone from Kelly Ripa to every yenta on Long Island. They have everything from crafts to clothing by many designers who offer reasonable prices to help raise money for ovarian cancer.”

8. Southampton Hospital, 240 Meeting House Lane, Southampton

“We got some flak for calling Southampton Hospital a taco stand [on the first season of “Royal Pains”]. But I have since met the doctors and nurses of Southampton Hospital, and they are all top-notch. So on behalf of the show, I retract that statement.”

9. Nick & Toni’s, 136 N. Main St., East Hampton

“Everything from their steak to their fresh fish to their zucchini chips is off the charts. On any given night, you’ll see some Hamptons notable eating, but you won’t be able to focus on them because you’ll be too busy enjoying your food.”

10. Estia’s Little Kitchen, 1615 Bridgehampton Sag Harbor Turnpike, Sag Harbor

“When I’m giving my wife the morning off, and I need a place to go with the kids early, we will open the restaurant at about 8 o’clock. We will have the most delicious pancakes and French toast and eggs. You will see everyone from the locals who have been up all night, to art mavens — who once knew Jackson Pollock — and then just dads like me, hanging with their kids.”

11. Gosman’s Dock Restaurant, 500 W. Lake Drive, Montauk

“The fishermen come in at about 5 o’clock or 6 o’clock, while the sun is low in the sky. And you can watch them with all their catches piled up on the surface of their boats. It’s the most beautiful spot to have a drink and order anything from a 2-pound to a 4¹/₂-pound lobster, and it will be — guaranteed — the most delicious thing you’ll have all summer.”
