Baby dies after 17-min. ambulance delay

An infant died at a Queens day-care center after an ambulance took 17 minutes to respond to a 911 call, according to a law-enforcement source.

Four-month-old Amir Millington was found unconscious and bleeding from the head by cops in his bassinet at 3:27 p.m. Monday after a worker at Q-Kids Day Care in Cambria Heights called 911, the source said.

Police officers and a Fire Department truck arrived at the scene four to five minutes after the 911 call was made, the source said.

The officers confirmed that the baby was unconscious and proceeded to use a defibrillator to try to revive him.

After they assisted Amir for about 12 minutes an ambulance finally arrived, according to the source.

The ambulance took the baby to Queens General Hospital, where he was declared dead.

FDNY spokesman Jim Long disputed the report, claiming that an ambulance was on the scene within three minutes and took the baby to the hospital immediately.

Long said that there was a brief exchange between cops and firefighters before the ambulance took the baby to Queens General.
