Manning the barricades — to protect America

The Issue: Pfc. Bradley Manning’s conviction of espionage last week for leaking classified documents.

***

The newly convicted traitor Bradley Manning is a product of the New Left, which views everything through a faux intellectual prism of moral relativism in which sedition is whistle-blowing, patriotism is reviled, anti-Americanism is chic and American values are racist (“Manning’s Enablers,” Ralph Peters, PostOpinion, July 31).

But mass murder in totalitarian states is cultural.

The scary part is this evil is dominant today.

While I could agree with Peters regarding flaws in US Army security, he has no intelligence whatsoever when it comes to what happened.

The security issues the United States faces are issues of failing to understand that, in a war, you lie to your enemies and you never lie to your friends. The data released clearly demonstrates that the US government never lied to its diplomatic contacts in foreign nations but that it always lied to its own people. Paul Noel

I have been waiting for an article like this for years. This is the way I and many others feel, but I did not know how to put it into words the way Peters did. John Colombo

What a thuggish analysis. Why would anyone be surprised at a military man having no concern for the Constitution?

Without any thoughtful discussion of our mistakes, we are destined to keep repeating them. It’s precisely this kind of man that needs to be challenged.

In Peters’ mind, protecting the US is the paramount issue. Getting only the most narrow-minded, nationalistic citizens into the military is his answer. He wants to dumb down the military with people who never have any thoughts other than “follow the leader.”
