Man ejected from car dies on West Side Highway

A man was thrown from his car and killed when he lost control of the vehicle on the West Side Highway Sunday, police said.

The victim was heading south on the highway when he tried to maneuver a left turn onto West 56th Street around 3:10 a.m., police said. That’s when he struck a median and flipped his Nissan Maxima, authorities said.

The driver was ejected from the car during accident and was rushed to St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital, where he died.

The police are withholding the 30-year-old victim’s name, pending family notification.

There were no other passengers in the car and no other vehicles appear to have been involved, police said.

The cause has not been determined but sources on-scene told the Post that it appeared the now-mangled heap of metal had been speeding close to 100 miles-an-hour.

The accident comes just days after the NYPD arrested a speed-demon who called himself Afro-Duck and posted video of himself driving a loop around Manhattan in a record-setting 24 minutes.

Nothing indicates that the driver in this morning’s accident on the West Side was attempting a lap around the island.
