Machete-wielding man shot, wounded by cops

The machete-wielding Brooklyn man shot and wounded by cops Saturday had been arguing with his roommate over money, police said.

Rene Loney, 49, grabbed a machete with each hand before walking out of the home on East 46th Street near Winthrop Street in Flatbush around 8:05 p.m. and confronting the two officers, the NYPD said Sunday.

A 45-year-old officer who has been with the NYPD for 16 years fired off two rounds, hitting the suspect in the right arm and the left hip, according to police.

His 29-year-old partner, who’s been with the NYPD for seven years, did not fire, sources said.

Loney was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he is in stable condition. He was charged with menacing a police officer and criminal weapons possession.

The cops were taken to Methodist Hospital for ringing in their ears, police said.

The officer who shot the suspect has not been involved in any other shootings, sources said.
