Christian Siriano heads to the islands

The Who:

Selma Blair, Leigh Lezark and Lindsey Gort all sat front row.

The What:

Guests were greeted by sweltering temperatures and tiki huts at the unveiling of Christian Siriano’s Spring 2014 collection.  Frocks were inspired by Siriano’s recent trip to Isla Mujeres, Mexico, a small island town located in the Northeast coast of the YucatanPeninsula. Daytime pieces looked as though they were souvenirs brought back from the small island. The woven raffia textiles looked like life size versions of handwoven baskets, an ode to the city’s arts and crafts.  Flouncy fabrics, ruffled hemlines and petal appliques allowed garments to flow freely down the runway.  Daytime pieces were brightly colored whereas formal pieces reserved for nighttime were more subtle and neutral.

The Highlight:

The evening wear pieces; especially the peach sequin gown and peach sequin duster jacket paired with an organza tie front blouse and crepe column skirt.

The Takeaway:

Siriano’s well balanced collection of daytime and nighttime looks showcases his versatility as a designer.
