‘Ghost Shark’ lacks buzz bite of ‘Sharknado’

Well, that was a short-lived TV phenomenon.

Syfy’s “Ghost Shark” — the first of its cheesy summer flicks to air since the network’s “Sharknado” created a social media frenzy last month — didn’t quite equal the Twitter impact of its toothy predecessor.

“Ghost Shark,” with a cast headed by Dave Randolph-Mayhem Davis, former “7th Heaven” child star Mackenzie Rosman and Richard Moll (“Night Court”), averaged 1.4 million viewers from 9 to 11 p.m. Thursday night.

It told the tale of a dead shark that comes back as a ghost to avenge its untimely demise.

By comparison, Syfy’s “Sharknado” averaged 1.4 million viewers in its premiere — but then increased its viewership in two successive telecasts — reaching a high of 2.1 million viewers — which is highly unusual for a TV movie.

“Ghost Shark” also didn’t have anywhere near the social media impact of “Sharknado,” which had everyone from Mia Farrow to Michael Chiklis tweeting about its cheesiness (sharks terrorizing LA after a tornado — don’t ask).
