Manhattan man killed paragliding

A Manhattan man was killed during a paragliding accident Wednesday afternoon when he landed on a frozen upstate river and fell into the frigid water below, police said.

Manhattan daredevil Rupert Cebular, 47, was practicing a maneuver when he lost control of his paraglider around 3:25 p.m. and fell into the ice cold river in Midldetown, New York State Police said.

Cebular’s friend tried to pull him out the frozen water but it was too late, cops said.

The adventure hobbyist posted para gliding videos on YouTube and Facebook where he chronicled his exploits.

One video taken near Randall’s Airport where he crashed was posted earlier this week.

“A few short clips from today’s flights,” Cebular wrote. “26 degrees – burrrrr”

He also listed himself as an Austrian native and a the owner of a bicycle company.

The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
