DOGGY DUATHLON A RUFF RACE

On your bark, get set, go!

A plucky bunch of New Yorkies will become “lap” dogs, as canines and their caretakers race through Gotham in the first Doggy Duathlon next summer.

They will race paw-in-hand in a 1,500-meter swim down the Hudson and a 10K run around Central Park next July, at the same time as the New York City Triathalon.

“I just thought it was a great idea,” said NYU student Brad Thornton, 21, who’s planning to run the race with his friend’s Boston Terrier, Bean.

“What’s better than getting in the Hudson with a dog. You don’t get to do that every day.”

Thornton, a champion swimmer at NYU, said that he and Bean will do some light jogging in Central Park, but thinks that the contest in the bag.

“As long as she sees some squirrels that she can chase after, it’s not going to be a problem,” he laughed.

Dogs will wear life jackets in the water and be treated to sports drinks, biscuits and even a pet shrink.

“The dog is the athlete,” organizer John Korff said. “The human is just along for the ride.”
