PA REOPENS 41ST ST.

The Port Authority today will reopen the stretch of West 41st Street that runs though the bus terminal, which had been closed to traffic since Sept. 11, officials said.

The street was closed because of concerns that it would be an enticing target to car bombers, sources said.

But after spending $100 million on security enhancements at the terminal, officials said it was secure.

“Above all else, our first priority is to ensure safety at our facilities,” Port Authority Deputy Executive Director Ernesto Butcher said. “We have had consistent conversations with area community groups that favored the reopening and this should be welcome news for residents of this neighborhood.”
