JOE HECKLED FOR SUPPORT OF ISRAEL

Democratic 2004 contender Joe Lieberman got heckled by angry Arab Americans over his support for Israel yesterday as he spoke about the need to restore trust between Jews and Muslims in the Mideast.

“What about the wall?” the hecklers shouted at Lieberman, who is Jewish, referring to Israel’s plan for a security wall to shut off the West Bank.

The heckling came as Lieberman began a parade of presidential contenders to speak to the Arab-American Institute outside Detroit, the first-ever presidential forum hosted by Arab Americans.

Lieberman insisted the wall is a temporary security measure, but added that “I regret the confiscations” of Arab land to build it.

James Zogby, who heads the institute, told reporters that America is putting “all the heat on the weakest party, the Palestinians.”
