MIKE: WE TOOK BITE OUT OF MOB AT SAN GENNARO

Health-conscious Mayor Bloomberg dug into a greasy Italian sausage sandwich at the Feast of San Gennaro yesterday and said he’s confident the famed street fair is now free of any mob taint.

“The president [of the feast] these days is Frank Macchiarola, who is as honest and competent a person who has ever lived in this city,” Bloomberg said.

“I know this is right at the top of his list, to make sure that the kind of things that took place in the past – or

at least are alleged to have taken place – do not take place in the future,” Bloomberg added.

Prosecutors say the 77-year-old fair was under the control of the Genovese crime family until the mid-1990s.

Macchiarola assumed the presidency of the feast in July after The Post reported that the previous president, Perry Criscitelli, had ties to the Bonanno crime family.

Macchiarola said San Gennaro has contributed $1.1 million to charity since 1996, including $81,500 last year.
