REPTILES A-ROAMIN’

It felt like the dog days of summer, but reptiles were giving Brooklynites the chills yesterday.

A 5-foot-long iguana was found in a middle-school parking lot on Ocean Parkway around noon, after a snake was spotted slithering between two apartment buildings in Crown Heights.

The iguana was sitting in the middle of the parking lot of Three Hierarchs Parochial School calmly sunning itself.

“It was scary, it was huge,” said sixth-grader Joann Manolis.

Construction worker Felix Prieto came from across the street to help. He was able to pick up the iguana and put it in a box while everyone waited for police to arrive.

“It was tame, ” said Prieto. “No problem.”

And sympathetic seventh-grade teacher Vicki D’Egidio said, “It seemed very afraid to be out.”

Rafael Negron, who lives nearby, said the iguana is named Betsy and has been his pet for 18 years. He’ll reclaim it today from the animal shelter where it was taken.

Meanwhile, in Crown Heights, cops were called to weed out a snake slithering along Carroll Street.

They tried to bag the 4-foot-long reptile, but it gave them the slip after a brief chase.
