NYPD CUTTING PARKING PERKS

All cops who want placards authorizing them to park on the street will now have to apply for them – apparently ending the policy of automatically giving them to every officer, a departmental memo shows.

The NYPD is trying to comply with Mayor Bloomberg’s request that every city agency reduce the number of permits by 20 percent.

The applications – to be reviewed by Internal Affairs – will require cops to say where they live and work.

No final decisions have been made, but officials are thinking about denying them to cops who live and work near public transportation.

Other measures under consideration include denying the on-street placards to officers who regularly use the parking garage at 1 Police Plaza, cops on sick leave, those with NYPD issued vehicles and all of the departmenr’s auxiliaries.

The placards will advise suspicious citizens to call 311 if they think the cars are illegally parked.
