REQUIEM FOR RUDY: AMERICA’S MAYOR FAILS

It’s sad to see Rudy Giuliani bow out of the presidential race (“Rudy’s Run,” Jan. 30).

He did a masterful job restoring order in New York City following the 9/11 attacks.

Unfortunately, this single act of heroism wasn’t nearly enough to land him in the White House.

Giuliani’s presidential fantasies crashed and burned because of his campaign strategy.

Many people voted against him because they never had a chance to meet him, and many others voted against him because they had.

Who managed Giuliani’s election campaign? Willie Randolph?

Giuliani can now paraphrase Richard Nixon’s famous quote to the press after the 1962 election loss: “You won’t have Rudy to kick around anymore.”

You have to give Giuliani credit for immediately dropping out and endorsing whom he believes would be best. But when will any of the candidates start running on issues instead of just talking smack about each other?

Sometimes it’s embarrassing to be an American.

Giuliani proved to be a disaster on the national stage.

He couldn’t say a sentence without interjecting 9/11 into it. He came across as stiff and phony.

It’s a shame – he probably would have made a fine president.

There is justice in the world! As Giuliani was trying to sell himself, I sat here in Florida yelling at the TV.

Giuliani spoke about cutting taxes, and I yelled, “Tell them about the price of tolls and the mass transit in New York.

“Tell them how you ran a great police commissioner and a successful school chancellor out of town.”

I guess there are enough of us one-time New Yorkers here in Florida who know about his relationship with unions. Ask firemen and policemen; ask the teachers.

This was a wonderful way to pay the arrogant Giuliani back.

Seeing Mr. Ego, himself, have to admit defeat really brought a smile to my face.

He is a low-life and should never get a chance to run for president again.

Why are New York Republicans so surprised about Giuliani’s collapse? I’ve waited 10 years to vote against him.

The Zeroes for Heroes contracts forced upon my fellow city workers were a disgrace.

I don’t know of any city cop or firefighter who would have voted for him. Giuliani’s whole legacy is a fallacy.

Giuliani was the frontrunner. An unwisely chosen campaign strategy does not make him any less a leader.

I suggest a McCain-Giuliani ticket. They would be unbeatable.

Come home, Rudy. What more can you ask for besides these beautiful five boroughs?

You are more New York than Al Smith and Teddy Roosevelt combined. You are Brooklyn’s best.

Stick around this time. You know how much fun New York City can be.
