Dolphins lineman goes AWOL after teammates teased him

Teasing isn’t just a problem in high school – it also exists in the NFL.

Dolphins right tackle Jonathan Martin left the team this week after suffering an “emotional breakdown,” according to NFL.com, and is unlikely to play in Thursday night’s matchup with the red-hot Bengals.

Fox’s Jay Glazer reported Martin was the victim of a prank at the cafeteria, which enraged him enough to “smash his food tray on the ground.” Glazer wrote teammates got up from the lunch table when he went to sit down and it caused Martin to “flip out.”

The Dolphins are terming it an undisclosed illness.

The second-year offensive lineman out of Stanford, a second-round pick in the 2012 draft, hasn’t been with the team since the cafeteria incident. NFL.com reported Martin immediately sought treatment at a local hospital. He left the hospital and is spending time with his family, according to team sources.

Martin started the season as Miami’s replacement for Jake Long at left tackle and was moved to right tackle when the Dolphins landed Bryant McKinnie in a trade last week. Tyson Clabo is expected to start in Martin’s place on Thursday.
