Home(r) run: ‘Simpsons’ going to FXX

‘The Simpsons” is finally coming to cable.

FXX has acquired the exclusive cable rights to the long-running Fox animated sitcom in the biggest off-network syndication deal ever — reportedly $750 million over 10 years.

Twenty-four seasons (530 episodes) of “The Simpsons” will start airing on the upstart FX sister network FXX in August 2014, with subsequent seasons becoming available after their first run on Fox.

In a first, FXX also secured the exclusive streaming and on-demand rights to the series, with all seasons to be available on its soon-to-be-launched authenticated mobile viewing app FXNOW.

“The Simpsons” has aired in broadcast syndication since 1993 on Fox stations — who until now had exclusivity on the series that was originally the lone animated series among mostly live-action repeats.

Currently in its 25th season, “The Simpsons” is the longest-running scripted show in TV history and has won 28 Emmy Awards, spawned a 2007 feature film and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
