Style expert’s new book will save you 30% a year on shopping

A new book by New York style expert Lilliana Vazquez casts some light on how American women spend on big retailers.

Vazquez, 33, whose blog Cheapchicas.com has up to 5,000 unique visitors a day, says women’s apparel stores pull in $41 billion a year. Women on average spend 399 hours, 49 minutes — or 16 days — in them each year.

The average American woman annually spends $217 on makeup, $417 on body-care products, $1,069 on clothing and $250 on shoes, she said.

But when it comes to New Yorkers, she notes, many women spend up to $1,000 on one pair of shoes without blinking an eye.

On the retail front, she says not to ignore the chains. Most (85 percent) of TJ Maxx’s store merchandise is “in season” and on trend, while less than 5 percent of inventory is imperfect.

Vazquez commends Target, Kohl’s and JCP for “trends on the cheap.”

She claims spending $25 on her book, “The Cheap Chica’s Guide to Style,” launching Nov. 5, will return the reader an estimated 30 percent in savings throughout the year.
