GREEN DAY: MARK SET TO DECLARE TOMORROW

Trying to maintain his lead in the polls, Public Advocate Mark Green will officially throw his hat into the ring tomorrow – the second Democrat to officially enter the mayoral race – The Post has learned.

Sources say Green, 56, will make his announcement in Brooklyn and then spend much of the day campaigning throughout the city.

While a New York Post poll earlier this month showed Green finishing first in the Democratic primary race at 25 percent, his three major opponents were seen narrowing the gap, with Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer in second place at 19 percent.

Green’s aides noted that the public advocate has stepped up his already hectic schedule this week, speaking at a Sheepshead Bay diner this morning to a multiracial crowd and appearing yesterday at St. Luke’s Church in Harlem, where he called for racial unity.
