What would Ryan Lochte do? Get tackled by fan and hurt knee

Jeah? Um, no…

In a blooper that would have fit in an episode of his cancelled reality show, goofball Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte suffered a knee injury this weekend when he was tackled by an adoring female fan.

Lochte gained outside-the-pool fame at the London Games in 2012 by giving spaced-out interviews and trying to coin personal catchphrases (“Jeah!”) when he wasn’t winning five medals, including two gold. After the Olympics, he appeared on “30 Rock” and “90210” and got his own show on E! called “What Would Ryan Lochte Do?”

Well, he would probably do something like this: During a visit to Gainesville, Fla., an excited teenage girl ran at Lochte. He tried to catch her, but instead toppled over and hit his knee on the curb, according to his publicist.

“As a result of a freak injury caused by an unexpected fan encounter, Ryan has suffered a torn MCL and an ACL sprain and will be taking a break from training and competition,” his publicist Janice Lee said a statement. “His medical team expects him to make a full and speedy recovery and Ryan thanks everyone for their well wishes.”

Lochte’s return to the pool is in question. There are no major meets on the horizon. He was next scheduled to represent the U.S. in the Duel in the Pool meet in Scotland on Dec. 20-21.
