The best city for young adults is …

If you’re 18 to 35, the place to be is Portland, Ore. a new survey claims.

New York isn’t even in the top 20, according to the Livability Index compiled by the website Vocativ.

The site calculated the appeal of the nation’s 50 largest cities based on 20 criteria, including lowest average rent, highest average salary, most coffee shops per capita, lowest unemployment rate and cheapest ounce of high-quality marijuana.

The data yielded a list of the 35 most livable cities for young people – the ones that “represent your best chance of not dying jobless and alone in you parent’s basement,” the site said.

The top five were Portland, Austin, San Francisco, Seattle and Minneapolis.

Rounding out the top ten were Las Vegas, Atlanta, Long Beach, Denver and Phoenix.

New York was a lowly 23rd – just ahead of Fresno. But Chicago and Los Angeles didn’t make the top 35.
