Baseball player’s wife in fraud rap

The wife of Seattle Mariners outfielder Carlos Peguero is facing federal wire-fraud charges for allegedly going on a $180,000 spending spree at Saks Fifth Avenue using a debit card belonging to the wife of Mariners star pitcher Felix Hernandez, according to the Seattle Times.

Maria Jacqueline Peguero is free on bond after pleading not guilty in Tacoma, Wash., federal court to three counts of wire fraud.

The charges carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Maria Peguero allegedly used Sandra Hernandez’s card from June 26, 2012, to Oct. 9, 2012, according to court documents cited by the Times.

Mariners’ spokesperson Randy Adamack told the Times that team officials are “aware of this pending police matter, but are not in a position to discuss it further.”

Hernandez, whose pitching has earned him the nickname “King Felix,” earns $19 million a year.
