Giant break: Aaron Rodgers out several weeks

It looks as if the Giants will get a colossal break when they face the Packers on Nov. 17 at MetLife Stadium. Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers is expected to be out at least three weeks after suffering a small fracture in his left collarbone in Monday night’s 27-20 loss to the Bears.

Rodgers said Tuesday he has a “significant injury” and does not know when he will return. The 2011 NFL MVP likely will miss this week’s game against the Eagles and also the following week’s game, which would be a huge benefit to the Giants as they look to climb out of their 0-6 hole and remain in hailing distance of the rest of the NFC East.

Rodgers went out early against the Bears, after he was sacked by defensive end Shea McClellin on the first series of the game and hit the ground on his left shoulder. The Packers don’t have much in reserve behind Rodgers. Veteran Seneca Wallace, signed in the first week of the season, is the No. 2 quarterback. He replaced Rodgers and went 11 of 19 for 114 yards and one interception. Wallace for now is the only other quarterback on the roster. The 33-year old has a career record of 6-15 as a starter, and his last victory was in 2010 with the Browns.

The Packers could opt to re-sign their former backup, Matt Flynn, if he clears waivers. Flynn was recently cut by the Bills.

Since becoming the Packers starter in 2008, Rodgers has missed only two games. He played with a separated left shoulder during the 2008 season.
