Christie: ‘Bodies strewn in the parking lot’ if there’s a Super Bowl outage

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie may have watched one too many episodes of “Boardwalk Empire”.

Christie was in Moonachie, N.J., Tuesday at a Superstorm Sandy-related event at the First Baptist Presbyterian Church with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Jets owner Woody Johnson when the governor relayed a story about the power outage during last season’s Super Bowl in New Orleans that caused a 34-minute delay.

Goodell and Christie were next to each other when the commissioner asked Christie if the lights would dim at MetLife Stadium, and Christie responded with a line right out of the hit HBO show while guaranteeing the lights won’t go out.

“But if they do, there will be bodies strewn in the parking lot for the people who are responsible for the lights going out, because that’s the way we handle matters in New Jersey,” he said.

Goodell confirmed the story was true and added, “I think he stepped out and he made a phone call to the head of the public utilities here and made sure that’s not going to happen this year.”

Host committee CEO Al Kelly also said power became a higher priority after what happened last year in the Big Easy.

“When things go wrong,” Kelly said, “it’s important not only that you fix it, but you learn from it.”

If not, according to the governor, someone may pay for it.
