Glu Mobile taps Katy Perry for newest celeb-based game

Move over, Kim Kardashian — Katy Perry is about to become the new queen of mobile gaming.

Glu Mobile, which reaped a bonanza from the “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood” game it released last summer, has tapped the “Teenage Dream” singer for its latest celebrity-based title.

Slated for launch later this year, the new game will feature “Katy’s voice, likeness, and personality,” and “will introduce players to a digital playground of global success and talent,” Glu said late Wednesday.

Perry has 170 million followers across social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, according to Glu. That’s more than twice Kardashian’s 78 million.

“Kim Kardashian: Hollywood” racked up $74.3 million since its launch last June, capping a stronger-than-expected fourth quarter, Glu said.

The Kardashian game has boasted 28.4 million downloads, with users logging a mind-melting 11.15 billion minutes playing it.

In the process, they’ve taken 6.3 million airplane flights, gone on nearly 404 million dates and nearly 750 million photo shoots, Glu said.

Glu more than doubled fourth-quarter sales and turned a better-than-expected profit. Its shares soared 14 percent in after-hours trading to $4.36.
