Barneys CEO calls Sharpton after ‘race’ flap

The Rev. Al Sharpton said yesterday he had received a personal call from the CEO of Barneys, where two black teens who had made pricey purchases were harassed by cops who assumed the purchasers were up to no good.

“Barneys New York believes that no customer should have the unacceptable experience described in recent media reports, and we offer our sincere regret and deepest apologies,” CEO Mark Lee said in a statement.

Sharpton is calling on others who may have been racially profiled at Barneys to come forward with their stories today at a rally at his National Action Network headquarters in Harlem.

Barneys has hired a civil-rights expert to review procedures and practices at the store.
