Martha Stewart coughs up Pine Bros. ads

With her namesake company struggling to turn a profit, Martha Stewart must have figured there was an easier way to make a buck.

The domestic diva is lending her trademark husky voice — and not so well-known sense of humor — to a new advertising campaign for Pine Brothers cough drops.

Stewart, who rarely appears in spots for brands she doesn’t own, agreed to do the print and TV campaign because she’s been using the cough drops since she was a child, according to the company.

Naturally that didn’t stop Stewart from publishing her own recipe for homemade cough drops in her magazine several years ago.

In the TV spot, she sits in a comfy chair, extolling the virtues of the product and running through the flavor choices. She ends by saying, “I’m never without them.”

The cheesy, almost tongue-in-cheek commercial was directed by “Saturday Night Live” veteran Fred Wolf.

The ads have begun airing on TV shows including “Ellen,” “The View” and the upcoming Golden Globes.

The Pine Brothers brand is being revived by Victoria Knight-McDowell, the creator of Airborne, marketed as an herbal and vitamin cold remedy.
