Jets have key players missing from practice

The Jets had some key players missing from practice Wednesday as they began preparation for this week’s game with the Saints.

Wide receiver Jeremy Kerley and tight end Jeff Cumberland were not on the field at all during the 30-minute period open to the media. Cumberland sustained a concussion in Sunday’s loss to the Bengals. Kerley has been dealing with a hamstring injury, but it won’t be known until the injury report is released later if that is what kept him out.

Defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, guard Willie Colon and wide receiver Stephen Hill were all in the trainer’s area when practice started. Coach Rex Ryan is scheduled to speak to the media later Wednesday afternoon. He gives the injury report then.

One positive on the injury front is wide receiver Santonio Holmes appears to be making progress as he recovers from a hamstring injury. Holmes was working with the receivers during positional drills and was in full pads. He has missed the past four games.
