Orphaned palms take root, thanks to Post

The world’s most pampered palm trees have found new homes.

Sixty palm trees that graced 230 Fifth Rooftop Bar — and were sent to Florida each winter by the late, eccentric restaurateur Steven Greenberg — had outgrown their home and were in danger of freezing as city temperatures plunged in recent days.

When nurseries, farms and botanical gardens in New York and Florida refused to take the $60,000 palms, even for free, a worried 230 Fifth spokesperson reached out to The Post — and got action.

More than 100 serious readers called in, and on Friday many came to the lounge to pick up the palms.

One of the lucky recipients was restaurateur Sean Sheridan, whose BayHouse Restaurant in Breezy Point, Queens, was destroyed during Hurricane Sandy.

“I was reading my favorite newspaper when I learned about the palm trees. They are a home run for us,” Sheridan said. Sheridan’s new eatery, on the same site, will open in May with eight palm trees on his new rooftop.
